• North America Breaker Company Counterfeit Circuit Breakers Recalled Due to Fire Hazard
 
North American Breaker Co. Inc. (NABCO), of Burbank, Calif., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 27, 2007, of about 50,000 counterfeit circuit breakers labeled as “Square D”, as these recalled circuit breakers have been determined to be counterfeit and can fail to trip when they are overloaded, posing a fire hazard to consumers. No injuries have been reported with this recall. The counterfeit circuit breakers are black and are labeled as Square D QO-series models 110, 115, 120, 130, 210, 215, 220, 225, 230, 235, 240, 250, 260, 280, 1515, 1520, 2020, 2125, 315, 340, 350, 360, and 3100. Actual Square D circuit breakers have (a) the amp rating written on the handle in white paint on the front of the breaker; (b) the Square D insignia molded onto the breaker side, and; (c) a yellow chromate mounting clip with half of the top of the clip visible. If your breaker, labeled as Square D, does not match this description, it could be counterfeit. The recalled counterfeit circuit breakers were made in China and sold by NABCO, electrical distributors, and retailers nationwide from March 2003 through April 2006. Consumers should contact NABCO to determine if the breaker they have is counterfeit and to arrange for a free inspection and replacement or refund if necessary. • GAP Outlet Boys Jacket with Drawstring at Waist Pose Entrapment Hazard
 
Gap Outlet, operated by Gap Inc., of San Francisco, Calif., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 27, 2007, of about 16,200 “Warmest Jacket” boys’ jackets, as the jackets have a waist drawstring with a toggle that could become snagged or caught in small spaces or doorways, which can pose an entrapment hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) to help prevent children from getting entangled at the waist by drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts. The jackets are hooded, zip in front, and have a drawstring at the waist. They were sold in navy and gray in multiple children’s sizes. “Gap Outlet” is printed on a label at the neck. Style number 513573 is printed on a white label sewn behind the size and product care label near the neckline. The recalled jackets were sold exclusively at Gap Outlet stores nationwide from September 2007 through December 2007. Consumers should stop wearing the jacket immediately and return it to any Gap Outlet store for a full refund. Consumers who return the jacket before April 30, 2008, will also receive a $5 appreciation card. Consumers choosing to keep the jacket should immediately remove the drawstring at the waist to eliminate the hazard. • eeBoo Corp. Tot Tower Blocks Pose Choking Hazard
 
eeBoo Corp., of New York, N.Y., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 27, 2007, of about 170,000 Tot Tower toy blocks, as the plastic covering on the toy blocks can detach, posing a choking hazard to children. The firm has received two reports of the plastic covering detaching from the toy and being mouthed by young children. No injuries have been reported with this recall. The recalled Tot Tower blocks are sold in sets of 10 blocks ranging from 6 x 6 inches to 1.5 x 1.5 inches. The cardboard blocks are covered in a plastic laminate film. They have various images and themes including Things I Know New; Garden Fairies; Hardware Store; Around the Land; Read-To-Me; Animal Sounds; Animal Alphabet; ABC; and Nursery Friends. “Tot Towers” and “eeBoo Corporation” are printed on the product's packaging. The recalled toy blocks were made in China and sold by specialty and gift shops nationwide from January 2003 through September 2007. Consumers should immediately take the recalled toy away from children, and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund, or contact eeBoo Corp. directly to receive a replacement toy. • Lenox Covered Warmer Dishes Recalled Due to Fire and Burn Hazards
 
Lenox Group Inc., of Bristol, Pa., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 21, 2007, of about 43,000 covered warmer dishes with rack, as the flames from the tea candle can extend up the sides of the dish. In addition, a label on the bottom of the dish causes excessive smoke when exposed to the flame. This poses fire and burn hazards to consumers. The firm has received eight reports of flames extending up the sides of the dish and smoking. No injuries have been reported with this recall. This recall involves covered ceramic warmer dishes with a rack and tea light candle. A label with “Lenox” and the SKU number is on the bottom of the warming dish. The recalled covered warmer dishes were sold by Lenox and department stores nationwide from October 2007 through December 2007. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled warming dish with rack and tea light and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. • Liberty Apparel Girls’ Hooded Sweatshirts with Drawstrings Recalled Due to Strangulation Hazard
 
Liberty Apparel Co. Inc., of New York, N.Y., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 21, 2007, of about 12,000 Jewel brand girls’ hooded sweatshirts, as the garments have a drawstring through the hood, which can pose a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist by drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts. No injuries have been reported with this recall. The Jewel brand girls’ zippered hoodie sweatshirts have various designs on the front, and were sold in two styles: the “Big Heart” zip-up long sleeve hoodie sweatshirts (style #J2173k/sk) in black, light pink and purple colors, and the “Small Stars” long sleeve hoodie jacket sweatshirts (style #J2174k/sk) in green, khaki, navy and orange colors. Both styles were sold in small, medium, large, extra-large sizes. The recalled sweatshirts were sold by Marshalls and other specialty children’s clothing retailers nationwide from August 2007 through November 2007. Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings to eliminate the hazard or return the sweatshirts to either the place of purchase or Liberty Apparel for a full refund. • Manttra Pressure Cookers Recalled Due to Burn Hazard
 
Manttra Inc., of Virginia Beach, Va., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 21, 2007, of about 38,250 pressure cookers, because if the pressure cookers are not closed properly, the lid can separate and allow hot contents to spill out. Manttra has received two reports of hot contents spilling out of the pressure cookers, resulting in minor burn injuries. This recall involves Manttra Smart series five-piece stainless steel multi cooker sets. The set includes a pressure lid, glass lid, steamer basket, wire trivet, and stock/pressure pot. Model/code number 38270 is stamped on the base of the 8-quart stainless steel cooker. The recalled pressure cookers were sold by major department stores nationwide from June 2003 through April 2007. Consumers should immediately stop using the pressure cookers and contact Manttra Inc. to receive a new replacement pressure valve (ZPD valve). • Empire Silver Teething Rings Pose Choking Hazard
 
Empire Silver Company, of Brooklyn, N.Y., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 21, 2007, of about 1000 sterling silver teething rings, as the silver ball that holds the ring in place can separate and release the beads. This poses a choking and aspiration hazard to infants. No injuries have been reported with this recall. The recalled sterling silver teething rings were sold in three styles: single ring with ball, single ring with heart and ball, and three rings with ball. The hollow ring has small beads inside that make a rattling sound and a ball between the rings. The recalled teething rings were sold by independent jewelry, gift, specialty and department stores nationwide in November 2007. Consumers should immediately take the teething rings from infants and return them to the store where purchased for a full refund or replacement. • MTC Magnet Toys Pose Aspiration and Intestinal Hazards
 
Man’s Trading Company (MTC), of Brisbane, Calif., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 21, 2007, of 2,800 super magnets, as the magnet attached to the bottom of a small toy panda can detach. If swallowed or aspirated by young children, the magnets can attract each other internally and cause intestinal perforations or blockages, which can be fatal. No injuries have been reported with this recall. The ½-inch toys are shaped and painted to resemble panda bears. A small magnet is attached to the bottom of the toy. “Super Magnets” and the MTC logo are printed on the front of the packaging. The magnet toys are sold eight to a package. The recalled super magnets were made in China and sold by dollar and gift stores nationwide from September 2005 through November 2007. Consumers should take the recalled toy away from children immediately and return them to the store where purchased for a full refund. • DEWALT Cordless Drills Recalled Due to Fire Hazard
 
DEWALT Industrial Tool Company, of Towson, Md., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 20, 2007, of about 346,000 DEWALT cordless drills, as the trigger switch of the cordless drill can overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers. The model number is printed on a sticker on the side of the unit. The date code is embossed on the bottom of the unit. The recalled cordless drills were sold by wholesale distributors and retailers from about June 2006 through December 2007. Consumers should stop using the drills immediately and contact DEWALT for the location of the nearest service center to receive a free inspection and, if necessary, free repair. • Specialty Merchandise Corp. Christmas Candle Sets Recalled Due to Fire Hazard
 
Specialty Merchandise Corporation (SMC), of Simi Valley, Calif., Calif., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 20, 2007, of about 13,000 Christmas candle sets, as the snowman candle could tip over and the exterior coating on both candles can ignite, posing a fire hazard. No injuries have been reported with this recall. This recall involves the 2-pieced Snowman and Christmas tree candle set. The snowman candle measures 6 and ¼ inches high and the Christmas tree candle measures 7 inches high. The recalled candle set was made in China and sold through SMC’s catalog from October 2003 through September 2007. Consumers should stop using the candles immediately and contact SMC to return the candle for a refund of the original purchase price. • AAFES Soldier Bear Toys Recalled Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard
 
AAFES (Army & Air Force Exchange Service), of Dallas, TX, in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 19, 2007, of about 11,400 Soldier Bear toys, as the surface paint on the toys contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. No injuries have been reported with this recall. This recall involves wooden toys and a plastic military vehicle toy playset. The style number, UPC codes and “Soldier Bear” logo are printed on the toy’s packaging.

• American Honda Lawn Mowers Recalled Due to Laceration Hazard
 
American Honda Motor Corp., of Torrance, Calif., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 19, 2007, of about 167,000 Honda walk-behind lawn mowers, as the cutting blades could continue to rotate after the control lever is released. The lawn mowers do not comply with mandatory federal safety standards for lawn mowers. The spinning blade poses a serious laceration hazard to consumers. No injuries have been reported with this recall. The recall involves Honda walk-behind lawn mowers with model numbers HRB217HXA, HRX217HXA and HRX217HMA. The model and serial numbers are printed on a label located on the upper rear of the mower deck. The lawn mowers are dark gray with a red fan cover. • Specialized Bicycle Helmets Recalled Due to Failing Helmet Standard
 
Specialized Bicycles, of Morgan Hill, Calif., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 18, 2007, of about 3,000 Specialized bicycle helmets, as the helmets failed to meet the required CPSC's safety standard for bicycle helmets. The helmets could pose a head injury hazard to riders in a fall. No injuries have been reported with this recall. This recall involves the Specialized helmets, model 2D. Model “2D” is printed on the sides of the helmet in the rear. The helmets were sold for men and women in matte black, white, silver, blue, pink, and team colors. The recalled bicycle helmets were made in China and sold by Specialized through its authorized retailers and online stores between July 2007 and October 2007. Consumers should stop using the recalled helmet immediately and return it to an authorized Specialized retailer to receive a free replacement or a full refund. • Gorilla Recalls Full Body Safety Harness Due to Fall Hazard
 
Gorilla Inc., of Flushing, Mich., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 18, 2007, of about 60,000 Full Body Safety Harnesses, as the harnesses could fail during use, resulting in a hunter falling from a tree stand and suffering serious injuries or death. No injuries have been reported with this recall. This recall involves the Pullover Style Full Body Safety Harnesses model SP40300 that was included as an accessory with Gorilla 2007 ladder stands. The harness bear batch code numbers 020507, 030507, and 040507. The model and batch code number is printed on the label affixed to the harness. The recalled harnesses were made in China and sold by sporting goods retailers nationwide from April 2007 through October 2007. Consumers should stop using the recalled safety harness immediately and contact Gorilla Inc. for a free replacement harness. • United Scientific Horseshoe Magnets Recalled Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard
 
United Scientific, of Waukegan, R.I., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 12, 2007, of about 153,000 horseshoe magnets, as the surface paint on the magnets contains high levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standards. No injuries have been reported with this recall. This recall involves horseshoe-shaped magnets sold in five sizes. The horseshoes have red paint on the surface of the magnet. Product numbers included in the recall are: SHM020 (two inch), SHM030 (three inch), SHM040 (four inch), SHM050 (five inch), and SHM060 (six inch). The recalled horseshoe magnets were sold by independent distributors nationwide from March 1995 through September 2007. Distributors sold the products to schools for use in science classes. Consumers should immediately stop using these products and contact United Scientific to receive a replacement product. • Billy Goat Industries Inc. Outdoor Vacuums Recalled Due to Fire Hazard
 
Billy Goat Industries Inc, of Lee’s Summit, Mo., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 12, 2007, of about 1,600 Billy Goat MultiVac Outdoor Vacuums, as the vacuum’s fuel tank could crack and leak fuel. If gasoline leaking from the fuel tank is ignited, a fire or explosion can occur. This poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers. No injuries have been found with this recall. The recalled outdoor vacuum is black and green with a red motor housing. “Billy Goat” is printed on the vacuum’s bag. Only outdoor vacuums with the following model and serial numbers are included in the recall. The model and serial numbers are printed on a label located directly below the height adjustment crank on the left side of the vacuum.

Venmar Ventilation Inc., of Quebec, Canada, in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 13, 2007, of about 1,100 heat recovery ventilators, as the thermal protector in these units can fail, posing a potential fire hazard to consumers. No injuries have been reported with this recall. This recall involves heat recovery ventilators made between October 2006 and August 2007, and have the following brand names and model numbers:
The recalled vacuums were sold by outdoor power equipment and rental dealers nationwide from June 2007 through November 2007. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled outdoor vacuums and contact any Billy Goat or Honda Lawn and Garden dealer for a free fuel tank replacement. Registered owners of the recalled vacuums will be mailed a notice. • Far East Brokers Fishing Games Recalled Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard
 
Far East Brokers and Consultants Inc., of Jacksonville, Fla., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 12, 2007, of about 14,000 fishing games, as the recalled game has parts that contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. No injuries have been reported with this recall. The recalled Fishing Game contains a fishing pole, one large battery operated fish, and three small wind-up fish. The UPC #011546208270 and product #25741 are printed on the product’s packaging. The recalled fishing games were made in China and sold by Grand Union Family Markets, Southern Family Markets, P&C Stores, Publix Super Markets, and Food Lion stores nationwide from October 2007 through November 2007. Consumers should immediately take the product away from children and return it to the store where purchased for a full refund. Jo-Ann Fabric Recalls Children’s Water Globes Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard
 
Jo-Ann Stores Inc., of Hudson, Ohio, in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 13, 2007, of about 60 Children’s Robbie Ducky Holiday Water Globes, as the painted base of the water globes contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. No injuries have been reported with this recall. The recalled Robbie Ducky water globe is about 1-1/2 inches in diameter and sits on a 1-1/2 by 1-1/2 inch square base. There are four different globe designs including: Robbie Ducky on a red base, a reindeer on a green base, a penguin on a green base and a polar bear on a red base. “Holiday Inspirations Water Globe” is printed on the bottom of the globes. The recalled water globes were made in China and sold by Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft stores in Florida, Texas, Missouri and Georgia in November 2007. Consumers should immediately take the recalled globes away from children and return them to any Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft store for a full refund. • Hooker Furniture Bunk Beds Recalled Due to Strangulation Hazard
 
Hooker Furniture Corporation, of Martinsville, Va., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 13, 2007, of approximately 1,300 bunk beds, as the bunk beds have gaps between parts of the upper bunk that could allow a child’s body to pass through but not a child’s head. This poses an entrapment or strangulation hazard to children and exceeds the space allowed by the federal bunk bed safety standard. No injuries have been reported in conjunction with this recall. The recalled bunk beds come in twin-over-twin, twin-over-full and loft beds with the following model names: “Albany Park,” “Swedish Accents,” “Mariner’s Landing,” and “Chelsea’s Place”. The bunk beds come in cherry, white, and black finishes. Some of the bunk beds are also made of metal. The recalled bunk beds were sold by Hooker Furniture retailers nationwide from August 2005 through August 2007. Consumers should not allow children to use the recalled bunk beds and contact the retailer where purchased to schedule a free, in-home repair. • Codee International Corp. Recalls Children’s Jewelry Due to Risk of Lead Exposure
 
Codee International, of Northvale, N.J, in cooperation with the CPSC has initiated a recall on December 13, 2007, of approximately 1,000 Codeena Princess Children’s Metal Jewelry, as the recalled jewelry contains high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects. No injuries have been reported in conjunction with this recall. Only jewelry with item numbers KS1367SS and KS1369SCP are included in the recall. The item number is printed on the back of the packaging. The children’s jewelry sets were sold in a variety of sets including pink or white pearl-like necklace, bracelet and earring or ring combinations. Some sets have studded charms dangling on the bracelet and the necklace. The recalled jewelry was made in China and sold by discount stores nationwide from September 2005 through August 2007. Consumers should immediately take the recalled jewelry away from children and return it to the store where purchased for a refund. Greenbrier International Inc., of Chesapeake, Va. in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 13, 2007, of about 300,000 Baby Toys Baby Bead & Wire Toys and Speed Racer Pull Back & Go Action! Cars, as the recalled toys contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. No injuries have been reported with this recall. The Baby Bead & Wire Toys are colored wires and colored beads that can slide on a natural wood platform. These bead toys have item number 903419 and date code 71 printed on the back of the packaging. The Speed Racer Pull Back & Go Action! Cars are yellow with black stripes and white with red stripes. Item number 873820 and date code 77 is printed on the back of the packaging. The recalled toys were made in China and sold by Dollar Tree, Dollar Bill$, Dollar Express, Greenbacks, Only One $1 and Deal$ stores nationwide from March 2007 through October 2007 (Baby Bead & Wire Toys) and from September 2007 through November 2007 (Speed Racer Cars) for $1. AutoZone Booster Cables Recalled Due to Electrical Hazard
 
AutoZone Parts Inc., of Memphis, Tenn., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 13, 2007, of about 140,000 Valucraft Booster Cables, as the booster cables clamps were assembled incorrectly resulting in reverse polarity. This poses an electrical shock and explosion hazard to consumers. AutoZone has received reports of four incidents of reverse polarity that resulted in minor property damage. This recall involves the Valucraft eight gauge and ten gauge booster cables. The cables are orange and have “8GA” or “10GA” printed on them. The recalled booster cables were made in China and sold by AutoZone stores nationwide and on its website from June 2007 through October 2007. Consumers should stop using the booster cables immediately and return them to any AutoZone store for a full refund or a free replacement. Infantino® has received eight reports of the nose detaching, including one report of a child gagging on the bitten off nose. The yellow and orange plastic teethers have date codes 6116, 6129, 6158, 6137, 0606, 0806, 0906, and 1006. The date codes are located on the back of the lion’s head, above the Infantino® logo. Lion teethers with other date codes are not included in this recall. QVC Inc., of West Chester, Pa., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 11, 2007, of about 13,000 Cook’s Essential Electric Toasters, as the toaster can turn on without bread in the slots and ignite items placed on top of it, posing a fire hazard. QVC has received reports of five toasters turning on spontaneously, including two incidents of burned toaster covers and one incident of fire damage to a kitchen cabinet. No injuries have been reported with this recall. This recall involves the “Cook’s Essential” chrome two-slice electric toasters model CT200. Each toaster has “Cook’s Essentials” and “Model: CT200” printed on a plate located on the underside of the toaster.

The recalled toaster was made in China and sold by QVC’s televised shopping programs, webpage, toll-free number, outlet, and employee and studio stores from May 2000 through May 2003. Consumers should stop using the toaster immediately, unplug it, and return it to QVC using the prepaid shipping labels that QVC will provide. Consumers who return their toasters will receive a full refund of the purchase price, plus shipping and handling. Consumers who bought a toaster from QVC’s television program or at QVC.com were sent a package by mail containing information on how to receive a refund. AtHome America Inc., of Alsip, ILL., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 11, 2007, of about 6,300 four-wick decorative candles, as the candle’s wicks are in close proximity causing the candle to burn unevenly and faster than expected, posing a potential fire hazard. The firm has received one report of melted wax on a table. No injuries or property damage have been reported in conjunction with this recall. The recall involves four-inch, square-shaped candles with four wicks. The candles were sold in three styles: the Earth Hue Toasted Nutmeg and Spice candle, the Holiday Hue candle, and the Golden Metallic candle. Gamenamics Inc., of Elgin, Ill., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 11, 2007, of about 1,100 cordless air-powered hockey tables with rechargeable battery, as the hockey table’s wires can overheat or melt, posing a burn hazard to consumers. Gamenamics has received eleven reports of burnt or melted wires. No property damage or injuries have been reported. The tables are 72-inches long and 38-inches wide and have a predominantly white surface with a bright blue aluminum rail. The playing surface contains the words “Jet Fan Hockey”. The recalled items have the numbers SG-504-6c and 73058 printed on the product’s carton. The recalled hockey tables were made in China and sold by Hammacher Schlemmer and Sky Mall catalogs and websites from August 2006 through January 2007 and from June 2007 through July 2007. The stability of the stand can be reduced, increasing the risk of a TV tipping-over. No injuries have been reported with the recall. The recalled tv stand measures 23 inches (h) x 43 1/4 inches (w) x 17 1/2 inches (d) with a brushed maple finish. The stand has black, wrought-iron legs and a lower shelf with a pull-out drawer. The machine has two foot platforms attached to a wheel at the rear of the machine. Each machine has “1175e” stamped on an oval decal located on the side of the wheel housing. The lower thermal oven does not pose a hazard. GE is aware of 35 incidents of minor property damage and one incident in which a fire damaged adjacent kitchen cabinets. • Ameriwood Industries Recalls Entertainment Centers Following Child’s Death
 
Ameriwood Industries Inc., of Tiffin, Ohio, in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on December 5, 2007, of about 138,000 entertainment centers, as they can collapse if the back panel is not secure, posing a risk of death or serious injury to consumers. The firm has received a report of a fatality when the entertainment center collapsed on a 19 month old child. The firm has received three other reports of minor injuries involving the entertainment center. The recalled entertainment center is black containing two lower miter-framed doors, two glass doors at the top, and CD storage racks. They measure about 54 inches wide, 71 inches high, and 20 inches deep. They were sold under the Ridgewood/Charleswood brand name. The Model number 93956 is printed on the instruction manual. They were sold at mass merchandisers nationwide, including K-Mart stores, from June 2000 through May 2005. • Boys’ Jackets with Drawstrings at Waist Sold Exclusively at Old Navy Pose Entrapment Hazard
 
Old Navy LLC, of San Francisco, Calif., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on Dec 3, 2007, of about 17,200 performance fleece-lined boys’ jackets, as the jackets have a waist drawstring with a toggle that could become snagged or caught in small spaces or doorways, which can pose an entrapment hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) to help prevent children from getting entangled by drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts. No injuries have been reported with this recall. The performance fleece-lined shell jackets are hooded, zip in the front, and have a drawstring at the waist. The jackets were sold in black or blue in multiple children’s sizes. “Old Navy” is printed on a label at the neck. Style number 507907 is printed on a white label sewn into the side seam of the jacket. The recalled jackets were sold exclusively at Old Navy stores nationwide and oldnavy.com from August 2007 through November 2007. • Dicks Sporting Goods Recalls “Power Bolt” Pitchbacks Due to laceration Hazard
 
Dicks Sporting Goods, of Pittsburg, Pa., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on November 27, 2007, of about 57,000 “Power Bolt” Y-Frame and Ultimate Y-Frame Adjustable Pitchback because the upper portion of the frame can collapse after both locking pins are removed, posing a laceration hazard. Dick’s Sporting Goods has received three reports of finger/hand laceration injuries. The products’ Y-shaped metal frames have attached netting which will return a thrown ball to the user. The upper portion of the frame is adjustable to allow a variety of rebound angles. The recalled sporting good was made in China and sold at Dick’s Sporting Goods retail stores nationwide and on its Web site. The Power Bolt Y-Frame Pitchback was sold from November 2002 to July 2007. The Bon-Ton Department Stores Inc., of York, Pa., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on Nov 27, 2007, of about 3,240 children’s fleece hooded zip-up jackets with neck drawstrings as the garments have a drawstring through the hood, which can pose a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist by drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts. No injuries have been reported with this recall. The recalled hooded zip-up sweatshirts are for Boys 8-20 and were made under the “Burnside” brand. The sweatshirts came in boys’ sizes small, medium, large and X-large and have various designs on the front. The recalled models have “RN # 39209” printed on the tag. The 2006 Snow Princess Stirrup Ornament is a stirrup-shaped ornament with a white prancing horse and blue ribbons. “2006” is stamped on the rim of the ornament. Style number 63525 is printed on the packaging. The “Bear Pencil Pouches” have soft fabric with a stuffed bear face, and measure 9 inches by 3 inches. Style number 67221 is printed on that packaging. The recalled pacifier necklace has a 28-inch multicolored cord with a 3- inch plastic pacifier that comes in assorted colors. A hole at the tip of the nipple is used as a blow hole for the whistle. The pacifier handle operates as the on-off button for the flashing light on both pacifiers. “Flashing Pacifier” or “2-in-1 Flashing Pacifier with Whistle Necklace” is printed on the packaging of the pacifiers. Paricon Inc., of South Paris, Maine, in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on November 21, 2007, of about 800 snow and sand castle kits, as the largest plastic castle block maker in the kit could crack at the handle during use, creating sharp edges that can pose a laceration hazard to young children. No injuries have been reported with this recall. The recall kit consists of three red plastic block makers. Only the largest block maker in the set is included in the recall. This maker measures about 19 inches in length and 5 inches in width. Smaller block maker blocks and castle kits with the letter “A” on the inside of the large block maker are not included in this recall. The recalled kits were sold exclusively by L.L. Bean retail stores nationwide, catalogs and Internet from September 2007 through October 2007. Consumers should stop using the large blocks and immediately take these toys away from children. • Cooper Lighting Recalls Fluorescent Shop Lights Due to Electrical Shock Hazard
 
Cooper Lighting Inc., a division of Cooper Industries, of Houston, Texas, in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on November 21, 2007, of about 274,000 metalux fluorescent shop lights because when the two prongs on the plug’s electrical cord are touched simultaneously while lamps are installed, the light poses an electric shock hazard to consumers. Cooper Lighting has received six reports of consumers experiencing an electric shock. However, no serious injuries have occurred. This recall involves the Metalux fluorescent shop lights Model 9240. Only date codes between December 1, 2006 (“344 06”) and September 14, 2007 (“257 07”) are included in this recall. The date code format includes the day and the year. For example, “344 06” refers to the 344th day of year 2006, or December 1, 2006. The model number and date code can be found on the packaging and on labels affixed to the fixture housing. The recalled fluorescent lights were made in China and sold at major home center and hardware stores nationwide from January 2007 to October 2007. No injuries have been reported with this recall. This recall involves all 2007 Halloween-themed baskets with item number 5464201. The item number is located next to the price on the paper hangtag on the handle. The plastic baskets are either black or orange with two carrying handles. An emblem of a witch, bat or pumpkin is attached to each side of the handle. The baskets measure 3 inches wide by 6 inches long by 4 ½ inches deep. The recalled baskets were made in China and sold at Hobby Lobby stores nationwide from August 2007 through November 2007.Consumers should take the baskets away from children immediately and return them to Hobby Lobby for a $2 exchange card. Jetmax International Recalls Children’s Wooden Storage Rack Following Child’s Death
 
Jetmax International Ltd., of Irving, Texas, in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on November 16, 2007, of about 36,000 boy’s and girl’s storage racks with canvas totes. The storage rack can tip over, posing an entrapment and suffocation hazard to young children. CPSC has received one report of a death involving an 8-month-old boy who was asphyxiated after he pulled on the storage rack and it fell over on him.The storage rack is wooden with three levels and nine removable canvas totes. There are wooden handles on each side of the rack. The boy’s storage rack has natural color wood with red, yellow, green, and navy canvas totes. The girl’s storage rack has white colored wood with pink, yellow, lime, and purple canvas totes. Wal-Mart sold the storage rack under the brand “Home Trend Kids 9 Canvas Bin Boy’s and Girl’s Organizers.” The storage racks were manufactured in China and were sold at Wal-Mart stores nationwide from August 2004 through July 2005, and at Ollie’s stores nationwide from July 2006 through June 2007. • Iceberg Enterprises Folding Chairs Pose Fall Hazard
 
Iceberg Enterprises LLC, of Park Ridge, Ill., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on November 13, 2007, of about 75,000 of its plastic folding chairs, as the chair can collapse during use, posing a fall hazard to consumers. Iceberg Enterprises has received about 15 reports of chairs collapsing while in use, involving three minor injuries. This recall pertains to Iceberg plastic round leg folding chairs. The metal support of the chair is charcoal and the seat and back support are beige. “Iceberg” is printed on a logo located on the back of the seat. Chairs with oval-shaped legs are not included in this recall. The recalled folding chairs were sold at office supply retailers nationwide from August 2005 through July 2007. • Nike Football Chin Straps Can Break and Pose Risk of Serious Injury
 
Nike Inc., of Beaverton, Ore., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on November 13, 2007, of about 235,000 football helmet chin straps, as the chin strap’s plastic cup can break as a result of contact, exposing the player to facial or head injuries. Nike has received 18 reports of the chin strap breaking, involving two reports of concussions, two reports of facial lacerations requiring stitches, and a report of a broken nose. The recalled football helmet chin strap consists of a plastic cup with a foam liner, straps and four metal snaps. They were sold in both youth and adult sizes and come in black/gray and white/gray color combinations. The Nike Swoosh trademark is printed on the outside of the chin cup and DRI-FIT™ is printed on the foam liner. “Made in China” and one of the following four style numbers is printed on the inside of the strap: FA0016 046, FA0016 130, FA0021 046, or FA0021 130. The recalled football helmet chin strap was made in China and sold at sporting good stores nationwide and on the firm’s web-site www.Nike.com from April 2006 through October 2007. Bassettbaby, of Bassett, Va., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on November 8, 2007, of about 8,900 Wendy Bellissimo Collection Convertible Cribs, as the bolts connecting the top corners of the crib can come loose, creating a gap and posing a serious entrapment and strangulation hazard. Bassettbaby has 85 reports of bolts loosening, including one report of a 13 month-old child’s hand becoming entrapped between the railings. This recall involves Wendy Bellissimo Collection Convertible Cribs, model numbers 5945-0521 and 5545-0521, sold in honey and cherry finishes. The full size cribs have a sleigh design and one of the following purchase order numbers at the bottom rail of the headboard: 272903, 272904, 273904, 276728, 276729, 291081, 323975, 324472, 320318, 323976, 332883 365620, 368466 in honey, and 338535, 338537 and 332884 in cherry. • American Honda Motor Corp. Lawn Mowers Recalled Due To Fire Hazard
 
American Honda Motor Corp., of Torrance, Calif., in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall on November 8, 2007, of about 22,000 Honda HRX217KHXA and HRX217KHMA lawn mowers, due to a manufacturing defect, a crack can occur in the fuel tank causing a fuel leak. If gasoline leaking from the fuel tank is ignited, a fire or explosion can occur. American Honda Motor Corp. has received six reports of fuel leakage. No fires or injuries have been reported with this recall. The recall involves HRX walk-behind lawn mowers with model numbers HRX217KHXA and HRX217KHMA. Only serial numbers from 1400001 through 1453714 are included in the recall. The model and serial number are printed on a label located on the upper rear of the deck. The lawn mower is dark gray with a red engine cover. The recalled lawn mowers were sold at Honda lawn and garden dealers nationwide, including the Home Depot stores, from January 2007 through September 2007. Consumers should stop using these recalled lawn mowers immediately and contact any Honda lawn and garden dealer to have the fuel tank replaced. Registered owners of the recalled lawn mowers will be mailed a notice. • Yamaha Recalls AC Power Adaptors Due to Electric Shock Hazard
 
Yamaha Corporation of America, of Buena Park, Calif., in cooperation with the CPSC has initiated a recall on November 8, 2007, of about 49,000 Yamaha AC power adaptors, as the housing of the power adaptor can separate, posing an electric shock hazard to consumers. Yamaha has received five reports of units separating. No injuries have been reported. This recall involves the Yamaha PA-3C power adaptor with a date code of 0624. The adaptor is used with Yamaha keyboards and digital drum sets. The model number is written in white print on the front of the plug of the adaptor and the date code is etched into the plastic at the bottom of the plug panel. The adaptor can be purchased as part of a set or separately. The recalled power adaptors were made in China and sold at musical instrument retailers nationwide from July 2006 through September 2007.
